Visit to Professor Friedrich Förster High School in Haldensleben

27.01.2026 -

On 22 January 2026, CVT staff member Jan Paul Walter, together with Inga scholarship holder Maria Labeit, visited the Professor-Friedrich-Förster-Gymnasium in Haldensleben. During the visit, Mr. Walter gave an overview presentation to the advanced chemistry and physics courses of grade 11 (approximately 30 students in total) on the societal relevance of process engineering, the corresponding fields of study, and the degree programs offered by the Faculty of Process and Systems Engineering (FVST) at Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg (OvGU). The aim of the presentation was to encourage prospective students to pursue their studies at our faculty.

The school visit in Haldensleben took place for the third consecutive year and is already showing initial success, as demonstrated by Maria Labeit’s successful start of her studies in the current winter semester. At the time of Mr. Walter’s first school visit in January 2024, Maria Labeit was a grade 11 student and attended the FVST outreach presentation as part of her advanced chemistry course.

The response to this year’s visit can be considered positive, particularly due to the interest shown by five students from the advanced physics course. As in the previous year, the school is planning a visit to OvGU, this time as part of the school project days. Within this framework, interested students will be given the opportunity to gain insights into the laboratories of the FVST as well as everyday student life at OvGU.

In addition, Ms. Labeit proactively offered to allow interested students to accompany her to selected lectures in order to gain first-hand insight into university life. This represents an important milestone in student recruitment, as students who were previously recruited are now actively contributing to the promotion of the FVST themselves.

An overview of the courses offered by the Faculty of Process and Systems Engineering can be found here.
