Why did you decide to (study your study program of choice) in Magdeburg./what was your Motivation ?
My decision to study Chemical and Energy Engineering in Magdeburg was driven by both my academic background and my professional experience. With a degree in Chemical
Engineering and around five years of experience in the industrial sector, I developed a strong interest in energy efficiency, process optimization, and sustainable technologies. Through my professional experience, I recognized that the transition towards more energy-efficient and environmentally sustainable technologies will play an increasingly important role in the future. I wanted to deepen my knowledge in this field and develop the expertise
required to contribute meaningfully to this transformation. The Chemical and Energy Engineering program offered me the opportunity to combine my
existing knowledge of chemical engineering with a deeper understanding of energy systems, optimization, and sustainable technologies. I saw it as an important step towards expanding my technical capabilities and preparing myself to take a more active role in developing and implementing solutions for a more sustainable industrial future. Magdeburg was particularly attractive to me because of its strong academic and Research environment, as well as the opportunity to study in a city with a connection to Engineering and industrial development. Overall, my motivation was to build on my previous education and professional experience while acquiring new knowledge that would allow me to contribute to the transition towards more sustainable and energy-efficient industries.

Why study (your study program of choice)?

With a background in Chemical Engineering and approximately five years of experience in the industrial sector, I realized that energy optimization and green technologies would become increasingly important in the future. I wanted to build on my existing expertise while gaining a deeper understanding of energy systems and sustainable technologies. I believe this program provides me with the knowledge and skills necessary to contribute to
the green transformation of industry and, in the long term, to take a leading role in developing and implementing sustainable technological solutions.

What is exciting about (your study program of choice)?
The most exciting aspect of the Master's program, and later my doctoral studies, has been the opportunity to explore new ideas, test different approaches, and learn from both successful and unsuccessful attempts.
Not every approach worked as expected, but I consider that an essential part of the learning process. Every unsuccessful attempt provided new insights and helped me better understand the underlying challenges, ultimately leading me towards solutions that worked. For me, this continuous process of exploration, problem-solving, learning, and personal growth is one of the most rewarding aspects of studying in this field.

What requirements and interests are needed for studying?
From my personal perspective, curiosity, a strong thirst for knowledge, and a desire for continuous improvement are the most important qualities for studying successfully. For a program such as Chemical and Energy Engineering, a solid foundation in physics, mathematics, and thermodynamics is also very helpful. In addition, analytical thinking, problem-solving skills, and the willingness to explore and understand complex technical
problems are important.

What is exciting about science/business?
As an engineer, one of the most fulfilling aspects of my work is seeing an idea develop from initial sketches, calculations, and engineering concepts into a physically constructed and functioning plant.
It is particularly rewarding to see something that started as an idea at my desk become a real industrial facility that operates successfully. It gives me a strong sense of purpose because I feel that my work contributes to something meaningful. In my field, this is especially significant because the technologies I work with are connected to fertilizer production and, consequently, to global food security. Knowing that my work can contribute, even in a small way, to improving the efficiency and sustainability of fertilizer production gives me a strong sense of professional fulfillment.

What are you doing now?
Since January 2023, I have been working as a Senior Process Engineer at thyssenkrupp Uhde Fertilizer Technology GmbH.

Short description of your current job: thyssenkrupp Uhde Fertilizer Technology GmbH is a licensor of urea granulation technology, providing technology solutions to customers worldwide. In my role as a Senior Process
Engineer, I am primarily responsible for carrying out basic design engineering for new plants and supporting customers in operating and optimizing their existing facilities. Another important part of my role is research and development. Continuous improvement of technology is essential to remain competitive and to meet the evolving requirements of the industry. Since urea production is closely linked to global food security, my work also focuses on improving process efficiency, reducing energy consumption, enhancing product quality, and making the technology more environmentally sustainable. Through these activities, I contribute to improving the efficiency and sustainability of fertilizer production while supporting the broader goal of strengthening global food security.
